The Verdict

So many beautiful boats to choose from in our top ten Santa Monica boat rentals, it is hard to choose the best one. After considering all the options, we felt that it might come down to choosing the best one depending on experience level. If you are an experienced boater and can handle anything you take out on the water, then your options are wide open. If however, you are a novice, then choosing an option with solid instruction or a captain would be your best bet.

While not our best overall choice, the Bareboat Duffy is an excellent choice for the beginner who wants to get a feel for the water but isn't ready for the more powerful options. The Duffy is electric, and you can get excellent instruction before you go out. It is a great place to start, and we highly suggest it.

Our second recommendation is Catalina. The Catalina is a way to get the feel of a much larger boat, but the owner accompanies every voyage. He is available to captain the ship, to be a crew member, or to teach you to drive. This is an excellent choice for someone who feels more comfortable with an onboard instructor.

For the experienced boater, your choices are almost endless. Sail, motor, or yacht? The choice is yours. As for our best-of in this category, we had two we liked best. One we felt was more family friendly, and the other was more for adult fun. First, the Cariblue. This one has all the amenities, including hot water and heated cabins. It has everything you need to cook for the fam, plus an impressive sound system and TV.

The second was the Yamaha jet boat. 375hp? We were hooked. Chances are, you are too. Pretty much anything from celebrating to cruising the coast in this one. Now while it may not be the best choice for small children, if they are experienced boaters like you are, throw on a lifejacket and go. Either of these choices is great for an experienced driver.

Now our final choice and best overall is the Beneteau Yacht. We just loved the many touring options available and all the freebies onboard: wine, snacks, WiFi? It's an easy decision. This one is great for anyone from 1 to 101, and with the Beneteau, you even have the option to captain her yourself. The Beneteau would be a lot of fun to take several trips on, receiving a different experience each time. It also has great reviews; and price wise, it is rather impressive. This one definitely gets our overall best-of vote.
